Pads for Horse Saddles on Sale
Saddle pads are normally used in conjuction with riding saddles in order to protect the back of the horse from the saddle itself. Saddle pads are usually made of layers of wool, foam, or felt. Some are now made out a type of gel. The type of pad your horse will need depends on the type of saddle used; English, Western, or Australian.
Western saddle pads are rectangular to protect the horse from rubbing or chafing from the saddle skirt. English saddle pads are much smaller and are shaped to the curve of the English saddle. Australian saddle pads are contoured like the English saddle but are better padded and used for longer rides.
Saddle pads are really more a matter of personal preference than most other items of tack and apparel. The purpose of a saddle pad is two-fold: to keep the saddle from getting dirt and sweat from the horse, and to provide comfort to the horse.
